Netanyahu says "will turn into tradition" fundraising for lone soldiers.

Sara Netanyahu presented a NIS 500,000 check on behalf of Keren Hayesod to The Libi Fund for lone soldiers and soldiers in dire economic straits at a ceremony in Tel Hashomer on Monday.
Netanyahu said she decided to become personally involved in assisting lone soldiers and soldiers without means following reports during the summer’s Operation Protective Edge of lone soldiers who fought in Gaza but did not have money for the coming High Holiday meals.
She said that she decided to raise some money after those reports, and with the help of Keren Hayesod was able to raise a few hundred thousand shekels.  “I said that  we will turn that into a tradition, and we raised the bar to half a million shekels,” she said.

Netanyahu, whose son Avner is currently in the IDF, said that she was influenced by his admiration for lone soldiers who  “leave their families and good conditions and warm homes” to serve in the army here.
“I am now the mother of a soldier,” she said at the ceremony.  “In everyone’s name I  salute  and love you. We are one big family.  Things should always go well for you, but if it is difficult you can always call and we will always be happy to help.”
Following the ceremony, she went to the Sheba Medical Center and visited a number of soldiers  wounded in Operation Protective Edge, as well as their families, and  two border border policewomen wounded in an attack in Jerusalem last month.
