Israel women’s basketball icon Liron Cohen retires
Cohen played for some of Europe’s best clubs over the past eight seasons.

Liron Cohen, one of Israel’s all-time greatest women’s basketball players, announced her retirement on Sunday at the age of 32.The captain of the national team and its all-time leading scorer first played for Israel in 2001, taking part in a record four European Championships. She made 131 appearances and scored 1,729 points for the blue-and-white, which are both records.Cohen won one local championship and three State Cups, but her greatest achievement was the fact that she played for some of Europe’s best clubs over the past eight seasons, reaching the Euroleague Final Four with Wisla Krakow in 2009/10 and taking part in the Euroleague All-Star game in 2011.Signed by the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA in 2008, Cohen never played for the team after being released three days before the start of the season.
