The world reacts: Netanyahu's indictment recommendations

Israel Police recommended indicting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for bribery Tuesday night, and world media has taken note.

After a 14-month-long investigation, police announced on Tuesday that they had found enough evidence to recommend indicting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for bribery and breach of trust in Case 1000, the “gifts affair" and Case 2000, the "Yediot Aharanot Affair."

World media did not remain indifferent to the police's recommendation to indict the prime minister. News sites from New York to Beirut extensively covered the unfolding drama taking place in Israel last night.

"Israeli police find 'sufficient evidence' to indict Benjamin Netanyahu," is the headline on CNN's homepage in light of the publication of the police recommendations.

In the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine, the headline "Israel's police recommends indictment of Netanyahu" appeared. The French newspaper Le Monde, as well as the Spanish El Mundo, picked up the story with similar variations of the headline, both heading their story with: "Israel: The Police recommends indicting PM Netanyahu for corruption."

The news even made it to front pages across the Middle East. The Turkish news site Hurriet reported "'1000 and 2000' to Netanyahu ... Bad news!" and Hezbollah-affiliated Lebanese TV station Al Manar headed their story with "Israel: Police recommend Netanyahu's indictment, who claims his innocence."
