Ben Gurion baggage inspector suspected of theft

Head of baggage inspection at Ben Gurion Airport Itzik Ben-Shitrit was arrested on suspicion of stealing a large amount of property from passengers' luggage, police said on Tuesday. Several other airport workers were involved in the scheme, which continued for several years. The other workers were expected to be arrested in the upcoming days, Israel Radio reported. Upon searching the home of the suspect, police found several items including cameras, watches, sunglasses and hand-held computers. Ben-Shitrit, whose remand was extended until Thursday, claimed that he was aware of the fact that the goods were stolen but that he himself had purchased them. Ben Gurion Police officials urged airplane passengers who had returned from abroad in recent days and discovered that any of their possessions had gone missing, to contact them.
