A member of an IDF scouting unit was moderately wounded by Palestinian fire on Friday evening near the Gaza border following a day rife with altercations between the military and Palestinian terrorists. Two bullets penetrated the scout's shoulders during a military operation in the area. He was evacuated to Beersheba's Soroka Medical Center.Earlier on Friday, two Palestinian terrorists were killed by IDF troops when they attempted to cross the into Israel from the Gaza Strip. The Islamic Jihad terrorist organization claimed responsibility for the intended attack, which the IDF Spokesperson said had been meant to target a nearby Israeli community. The IDF sustained no casualties in the clash, which occurred near Kibbutz Nirim on the border with Gaza. The two terrorists successfully crossed the border fence and hid in a ditch 20 meters into Israeli territory, where they were identified and intercepted by the IDF. The exchanges of fire included mortar fire by both sides.Several neighboring communities were immediately placed under security alert due to the risk of additional infiltrations. Roads were closed and IDF helicopters arrived to assist in searches. The two incidents followed Thursday's Israeli Air Force strike on three border tunnels in Gaza in response to a Kassam missile which was launched at Israel that day.
