Israeli crime decreased by 5% in 2005, police reported on Monday. Nonetheless, the police's annual report also registered a sharp increase in armament in the six major crime organizations.
In an interview with Army Radio, Inspector-General Moshe Karadi said that dealing with violent crime is at the top of law enforcement priorities. "Organized crime activities are becoming more and more similar to those of terrorist organizations … Their activity is ramping up, which undoubtedly shakes the public's feeling of security. Organized crime must be dealt with in the same way as terror."
