Vote on budget cuts postponed in Finance Committee

The Knesset Finance Committee on Tuesday postponed for the second time a vote on budget cuts proposed by Finance Minister Avraham Hirschson's , after Kadima delegates failed to garner majority support for the proposal in the committee.
Labor MKs threatened to vote against the proposal because, they said, it would the hurt economically vulnerable. In response, coalition chairman MK Avigdor Itzhaky (Kadima) threatened that his party would pull out of the coalition.
The Finance Committee meets Tuesday to vote on the proposal for NIS 1.8 billion in cuts from the government budget. The proposal, meant to finance war expenditures, does not include cuts from the Health, Welfare, or Internal Security Ministry budgets.
