The Yesh Atid leader has decided to do something about that, and has dedicated the weeks leading up to the April 9 elections to joining an active IDF combat unit.
“It’s been pretty good so far,” said Lapid, speaking to the The Jerusalem Roast from an undisclosed base near north Tel Aviv. “I still haven’t been able to locate the espresso machine, but I’m sure I will, once I get my bearings.”
Lapid explained that his main objective in resuming his army service is to stem the constant ribbing he was receiving at the hands of his Blue and White partners Benny Gantz, Gabi Ashkenazi and Moshe Ya’alon.
“They’ve been making me walk 10 steps behind them, carry their briefcases and force me to salute them,” he said.
Lapid’s Blue and White partners reacted yesterday with muted enthusiasm to Lapid’s initiative.
“I took some photos of him on my cellphone, but they seemed to have disappeared,” said Gantz.
Ashkenazi didn’t make any public statements, but could be heard off-mic muttering something about “another jackass.”
Ya’alon looked puzzled and asked an aide, “Where is that short fellow who used to carry our briefcases for us?”
