France's far-right National Front party announced on Friday that it will prevent schools from offering Jewish and Muslim students pork-free meals in the towns where it won recent local elections, reported The Independent.Party leader Marine Le Pen said that religious meal restrictions contradict the country's secular values, and there is no place for religion in the public sphere. While France is officially a secular republic, it has a large Catholic majority, and has seen periodic controversies over school meal alternatives for Jewish and Muslim students, according to the Independent. The National Front won control of 11 towns and over 1,400 municipal seats nationwide in local elections earlier this month amid increasing anti-immigration and anti-EU sentiment.
