Israeli kids are losing their marbles … but not in the way you might think. Children around Israel are scrambling to collect 1.5 million colored marbles as part of a special project to create a memorial for the 1.5 million Jewish children killed in the Holocaust, reports www.local.co.il. Schools in Kfar Saba, Ra'anana, Herzliya and Hod Hasharon all recently joined about 1,100 elementary schools around Israel for the "It's Not Child's Play" project, which was the initiative of a school in Holon and was adopted by Education Minister Yuli Tamir.
According to the report, the collected marbles will be put on display at a special children's memorial to be built in Holon. And it is not only Israeli children who are losing their marbles in the project - about 150 Jewish schools around the world have also joined and are sending marbles to Israel. About 460,000 marbles have reportedly been collected to date.
