The Health Ministry swooped on a supermarket in Haifa last week and destroyed more than one ton of meat, chicken and fish, reports Yediot Haifa. The products were found to have gone off in the supermarket's freezer room after its refrigerators failed for a full day.
According to the report, ministry officials destroyed 768 kg of beef, 176 kg of chicken, 616 kg of fish and 132 baked goods, as well as other frozen products such as bourekas, malawah, pizzas, kebabs, and hamburgers. The ministry said it would keep supervising the management of the supermarket and the refrigeration conditions. A supermarket spokesman said the problem had been caused by a fault in the refrigeration system, which had since beenrectified.
