Ramat Hasharon Mayor Itzik Rochberger has chalked up a victory in his battle to prevent his city from being merged with Herzliya and Kfar Shmaryahu - for now at least, reports www.local.co.il. Rochberger has succeeded in getting 15 Knesset members to sign an objection to any merger before the next municipal elections, due this coming November.
According to the report, the Interior Ministry's plan to merge some 27 cities around Israel this year has not found favor in Ramat Hasharon. Rochberger, meanwhile, has succeeded in getting 15 Knesset members to sign an agreement that any merger would not be carried out before the municipal elections at least.
"We are talking about a decision that should be outside political party considerations … In any event, we will continue our struggle against a merger," Rochberger said.
