Security officials say a shootout between Lebanese troops and gunmen on the edge of a Palestinian refugee camp has left a gunman dead and two soldiers wounded.
The officials say the shooting occurred when gunmen riding in a car opened fire as they tried to run away from an army checkpoint at an entrance to the Ein el-Hilweh camp in southern Lebanon.
They say soldiers returned fire, killing one of the gunmen and injuring another.
The officials say an army officer and a soldier were wounded in the Wednesday night gunfight. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.
Ein el-Hilweh is notorious for violence among militants. On Monday night, gunmen assassinated a militant.
