Iran said that Tehran supports Syria today more than ever because the "majority of Syrians still support the [Syrian] regime," Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon Ghazanfar Roknabadi said according to Hezbollah-affiliate Al Manar.Roknabadi said this support was "proven" despite Western and Arab media attempts to distort the reality on the ground.Roknabadi denied, however, reports that the Islamic Republic was providing the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad with military support via weapons or personnel in order to suppress protests calling for Assad's ouster, according to the report. His comments come after Syria's Muslim Brotherhood accused Iran of being complicit in the brutal crackdown on anti-government protesters in Syria, according to AFP, in a civil conflict that has resulted in the deaths of more than 6,000 people. The Sunni Islamist Brotherhood likened Assad's government to Nazis, accusing China and Russia - both of which vetoed a UN resolution that would have called for Assad to quit - along with Shi'ite Iran of being "direct accomplices to the horrible massacre being carried out against our people," according to the report.Syrian Brotherhood spokesperson Zouheir Salem accused the three countries of supplying Syria with weapons.Rokbadi, speaking on Monday, said that Iran is "not at odds with the Muslim Brotherhood out of Islamic unity that we work towards and preach for."
