The Iraqi government mustn't follow-up on US accusations that Iran backs violence in Iraq, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said Sunday in a rare public spat between the two countries since the fall of Saddam Hussein.
On Saturday, Iraqi government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said Iran was now limiting its support to fighters in Iraq, and urged Teheran and the US to take advantage of this to hold a new round of talks on improving the situation in the wartorn country.
"Iran is showing more restraint in sending people and weapons to destabilize Iraq," al-Dabbagh said.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry angrily dismissed this implicit endorsement of US accusations.
