Iran’s Intelligence Ministry said on Sunday that it discovered a Mossad-trained network of terrorists linked to the intelligence agency of an Arab state, according to a report by Iran’s Press TV. The ministry said the Arab country was assigned to carry out attacks to disrupt the presidential election, which is scheduled for June 14.The Intelligence Ministry announced that a 12-member team was formed to carry out the attacks in order to create sectarian strife in the country by assassinating prominent religious and ethnic figures. It also warned the enemies of Iran and Islam – along with their allies in the region – that they would face a strong reaction if they cross “red lines.” The spies coordinated their activities with a base in Britain, according to Iran’s Mehr News.Every few months, Iran tends to announce that it has caught spies working for Israel or other Western countries. The Gulf states also report the discovery of Iranian- linked spy networks from time to time.Last month, Saudi Arabia arrested 10 people accused of spying for Iran a month after the arrest of another 18 related to the same case. The Sunni Muslim kingdom, the world’s top oil exporter, accuses the Islamic Republic of stirring unrest among minority Saudi Shi’ites.Tehran rejects that charge and has also denied any involvement in espionage in Saudi Arabia.Reuters contributed to this report.
