Yemeni police said they have arrested six alleged Al-Qaida members in the southern province of Ebin, bringing to 48 the number of suspected al-Qaida militants arrested in security operations across the country in the past week.
The most dramatic episode so far was a shootout last Monday that killed five militants and two Yemeni troops.
Security officials said Sunday that al-Qaida was plotting another attack to avenge the death of their members following the shootout.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to speak to the press.
