Wednesday’s 47th annual Jerusalem Day celebrations will be marked by a variety of events and performances, with a special emphasis on celebrating Jerusalem Day in the city’s many neighborhoods. Celebrations include performances by musicians, events for families, tours, workshops, exhibitions, memorials, and more.
Below is a list of the times and activities scheduled by the Jerusalem Municipality:
•         Reception hosted by Mayor Barkat and his wife at the Tower of David Museum, from 10:00 a.m. to11:30 a.m.
•         Dramatized tours of the Municipality campus, free of charge. The Quality of Service Authority invites the public to dramatized guided tours of the Jerusalem Municipality. The tours will depart at 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.at the entrance to Safra Square, near the “Meeting point for tours of the municipality campus” sign.
•         National memorial service for Ethiopian Jews on Mount Herzl, at 11:00 a.m.
•         National Memorial service for those killed during the Six Day War, on Mount Herzl at 2:00 p.m.
•         Memorial services for combat soldiers at the following monuments: Rockefeller Museum, at 3:30 p.m.; Sheikh Jarrah, Ammunition Hill, the American Consulate, Lion’s Gate at 4:30 p.m.
•         Finally, at Ammunition Hill at 7 p.m., President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, various ministers, Mayor Barkat, and the Police Commissioner gather with bereaved families to commemorate the 47 years of liberation and unification of Jerusalem. By invitation only.
•          “Flag Dance” parade, prayer and rally, from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The parade is accompanied by dancing, singing, and waving of the flags of Israel and is produced by the “Am K’Lavi” Society. Tens of thousands of people from Israel and around the world attend the parade annually. The parade will end in a festive ceremony, which includes a rally and a communal prayer at the Western Wall.
