National Infrastructure Minister Dr. Uzi Landau will award 38 scholarships worth NIS 2.6 million to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in the field of energy, the ministry announced on Thursday.Students to receive the scholarships will include undergraduates studying electrical engineering with a specialization in strong current or high voltage, from the Holon Institute of Technology, Afeka College of Engineering, College of Ariel in Samaria, Sami Shamoon College of Engineering, Tel Aviv University and Ben-Gurion University, according to the ministry.Graduate students to receive funds include those studying natural gas and oil engineering at the Technion- Israel Institute of Technology; those studying energy engineering at Ben-Gurion University, Afeka College of Engineering and the Technion; and those completing theses in energy policy and energy economics at Tel Aviv University and the University of Haifa.“The major challenges of the State of Israel are in the energy field,” said Landau, in a statement released by his office. “Electricity, natural gas and renewable energy are just the tip of the iceberg. A central and important part of our future lies in learning and research, which the Jewish mind is known to be good at.”The minister stressed the importance of providing sufficient government incentives, so that students have the resources to tackle these challenges.“As we all act to realize this potential, we can promote the self-sufficiency of Israel and independence from others,” Landau said.
