Israel’s national women’s volleyball team got its first European Championship campaign in 40 years off to a losing start of Saturday.The blue-and-white fell to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Poland (25-23, 25-7, 25-15) in Pool C, which is being played in Zrenjanin, Serbia.Israel faces Romania in its second pool game on Sunday before playing the Czech Republic in its final encounter on Monday.The national team needs to finish among the top three to advance to the next stage.“I’m pleased with the way we played in the first set, but I’m not pleased at all with the way we fell apart in the second and third sets,” coach Arie Selinger said. “We never really thought we could beat Poland, but I believe things will look different against Romania and the Czech Republic.”
