Sayfullo Saipov carried out the Halloween terrorist attack in which he deliberately drove a 6,000 pound truck into people on the Hudson River Bike Path in lower Manhattan.
Several Palestinian factions praised the Jerusalem terrorist attack as a "natural response to the crimes of the occupation in al-Aqsa Mosque."
The terrorist was Hatem Abu Nijmeh, an east Jerusalem resident who was unknown to security forces but has a history of mental illness.
"My son knows him, there are even videos of the kids making jokes with him," said one of the mothers of children at the school.
The suspected terrorist was shot at the scene and police are investigating the incident.
Israeli media reported that security forces with water cannons were en route to the Ayalon highway to disperse the crowds.

The truck driver also struck three men on mopeds who suffered minor injuries, WABC-TV reported.
