Haniyeh, a senior Hamas leader, was killed on July 31, 2024, in Tehran, Iran, where he was attending the inauguration of Iran's new president.
There is a possibility that embassies, synagogues, Israeli businesses, Chabad houses, kosher restaurants, and other various Jewish sites could be targeted, the NSC said.
The commission said that it will soon publish unclassified parts of the evidence collected during the probe into the deal, worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
NSC Head Hanegbi distanced himself from the remarks, stating, "Hamo's statements represent himself alone."
The Israel-Hamas war has led to an increase in Hamas activity against Jews and Israelis abroad, and in December 2023, a large terror infrastructure belonging to Hamas was exposed in Europe.
"This period [Ramadan] has a unique religious meaning in the Muslim world. Muslim terrorist organizations see Ramadan as an opportunity to carry out attacks and acts of violence," the statement read.
Even members of the White House's National Security Council were not informed, and Congress was apparently notified only 15 minutes before the press.
“Sadly I think it's safe to assume that they are still using sexual violence as a weapon," said United States National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby.
“We can’t say don’t go, what we can say is that Israelis should weigh where they go,” an NSC official said.
“We believe they [Israel] have been receptive to our messages in terms of trying to minimize civilian casualties,” US NSC spokesperson John Kirby said.
