Whether it's the toppling of the walls of Jericho, the redemption of the Western Wall and Temple Mount, or if it's at the synagogue on Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashana – the shofar has been and always will be an integral part of the Jewish nation, through good and bad times.
The Sound the Shofar exhibition which opened last week in Jerusalem displays some of the most important and well-known shofars, such as the shofar of Rabbi Goren that was sounded at the redemption of the Western Wall. Also on display shofars that were witness to some of the most trying times of the Jewish nation, such as the Holocaust, which were discovered after the war.
Visitors will also be able to see a shofar from the time of the British Mandate that was blown on Yom Kippur despite the British ban to blow a shofar, which was punishable by a prison sentence.
In the exhibition there are no less than 140 shofars, and it's not something you want to miss.
The exhibition is open to the public and will run until the end of February in the Bible Lands Museum in Jerusalem.
