Palestinians: 1st Jewish baby born in Ramallah hospital

PA health minister says mother declined transfer to Israeli hospital; baby is born premature, official Palestinian news agency reports.

A Jewish baby was born in a Palestinian hospital for the first time on Wednesday, official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.
Palestinian Authority Health Minister Fathi Abu Mugli told WAFA that "a Jewish woman who was in Ramallah for unknown reasons came to the medical complex suffering from abdominal pain and after being examined," it turned out she was in labor.

The woman was reportedly asked if she wanted to be transferred by ambulance to an Israeli hospital, but "the mother refused and insisted on staying and delivering the baby in the complex," Mugli said.
The baby was born prematurely at 5.1 pounds (2.3 kilograms) and placed in an intensive care incubator unit, according to the report.
According to the PA health minister, Israel was notified of the baby's birth and it was requested that she be transferred to Israel but the new mother supposedly declined, WAFA reported.
