Street fashion: Trés chic Tel Aviv

Monochromatic morning style She may just be out on a morning walk with her dog, but Amalia, an artist who lives in Tel Aviv, has on red lipstick and hasn't forgotten to accessorize her sporty look. By wearing tones of beige (even Chicky the Maltese matches), and accessorizing with oversized black sunglasses and a peak cap, she creates a minimalist, clean look. Her cargo trousers and cotton top get a stylish twist via a bold gold bracelet on each arm. French chic rule No. 2: Wear monochromatic colors, then add at least one eye-catching element to your outfit. St. Tropez style With her bronze skin and cheeky fedora, Mary wouldn't be out of place sipping pastis in the South of France. She tells us, in beautifully accented English, that she's here from Paris for a week's vacation, and her hippie-chic look is very different from the classic way she dresses for her job as a marketing executive for a business school. I admire her beaded belt, which is worn over a peasant top and shorts; she admits she bought it at Zara but says she likes to mix it with John Galliano and other designer wear. French chic rule No. 1: Always mix an expensive piece of clothing with something lower-end. Stylish scent We know Parisian women consider perfume an accessory as important as a good bag and shoes. So popping in to La Maison du Parfum, the boutique perfumery on Ben-Yehuda Street, is obligatory in our style search. Dalia, who lived in Antwerp for 20 years before coming back to live in Israel, believes perfumes should be changed along with your mood and the season. So we spritz on L'Artisan Parfumeur's Timbuktu – too oriental and heavy for the summer heat, then move on to softer Rose Musk by Montale. Just for fun we try Creed's Aventus – a unisex perfume that Dalia says is her bestseller. Style with an attitude Issey reminds me of the tough guys you meet standing at the counter of the Tabac in Paris. An Israeli who works in the field of fashion and visual arts, Issey has been based in New York for the last 15 years, which he loves as “every street is a fashion show.” Even though we just caught him dropping in to Courcelle, his neighborhood patisserie, for a wake-up espresso, he didn't leave home without his black suspenders and leather cuff bracelets.
