The IDF is to probe a group of soldiers Sunday over their alleged beating of an unarmed Palestinian man during riots in the West Bank over the weekend.Video footage purporting to show a violent confrontation between Israeli troops and a Palestinian protester near the Jelazoun refugee camp north of Ramallah created a storm on the Internet on Saturday. The recording published by a Palestinian news network on Friday appears to show the man confronting the soldiers about what Palestinian reports claim was his anger over the injury of his family members during earlier riots. At one point, the footage shows one of the soldiers yelling obscenities at the Palestinian and shoving him before more soldiers join the scuffle, beating the man, wrestling him to the ground, and binding his hands. The incident took place during widespread riots in the area, for which security forces were called in. According to an IDF source, the soldiers immediately reported the incident with the Palestinian man. The source added that the military would open an investigation Sunday.“Those involved will be brought before their brigade commander for further examination and investigation of the incident, and if necessary, disciplinary action will be taken,” an army spokesman said. “According to the initial investigation it appears that the behavior is not consistent with that expected of IDF soldiers.”
