IDF kills second Palestinian assailant within 24 hours
The incident occurred when the military unit entered a home in Beit Umar, near Bethlehem, to arrest a wanted security suspect.

A Palestinian was shot dead during an arrest raid in the West Bank early on Thursday, in the second such incident in 24 hours.The incident took place when soldiers entered a home in Beit Umar, near Bethlehem, to arrest a wanted security suspect.The suspect’s family assaulted soldiers, an army spokeswoman said. A soldier then fired at the legs of one of the attackers. He was wounded; Red Crescent paramedics took him to a Palestinian hospital in the area.As the unit left the home, a large gathering of Palestinians surrounded the soldiers, the spokeswoman said. “Rioters hurled rocks and concrete blocks at the soldiers, lightly injured an IDF soldier who received medical care on the scene."In response, soldiers fired small arms fire, hitting one of the attackers,” she added. One Palestinian was shot dead.On Wednesday, the Ma’an news agency reported that Israeli security personnel shot and killed a Palestinian youth during a riot near Jenin.An Israeli security source said the incident occurred during an arrest operation in Burkin, when soldiers guarded by Border Police officers arrived to arrest a security suspect.The man was suspected of taking part in past rioting, the IDF said.During the arrest, rioting broke out, and a Border Police officer fired rounds at a man’s legs, Border Police personnel said. The hospital in Jenin that received the injured rioter later announced that he had been killed by a gunshot wound to the chest, despite undergoing surgery.Ma’an named the dead man as Muhammad Ahmad Alawneh, 21. An army spokeswoman said the IDF is looking into the incident to gather further information.
The IDF made a series of arrests overnight Tuesday across the West Bank, taking 18 security suspects into custody. Two are members of Hamas who were arrested in Jenin.
