The Lev cinema will celebrate Japan's contributions to international culture beginning this month, to coincide with the April 4th local release of Departures, the Japanese winner of this year's foreign film Oscar. Together with the Israel-Japan Chamber of Commerce, Lev will host a number of events that combine screenings of Japanese films with lectures on Japanese culture. The opening event will be held at the "Mandarin" Lev on the Tel Aviv shore on Friday with a preview screening of Departures. The other events, to be held at the same venue, will feature lectures on Japanese history as reflected in film, Japanese architecture and the Osaka Quarter. The films The Hidden Blade (April 3), Kikujiro (May 1) and After the Rain (June 19) will be shown as well. Tickets are available by calling (03) 741-2666 or e-mailing Lev.Mandarin@lev.co.il.
