Teperberg 1870 Winery has come a long way and, as always, is offering great deals.For Rosh Hashana, it offers wine gift packages for NIS 69, including deals such as buy two wines and get one free.Look in the supermarkets and wine shops.A few of Teperberg’s better wines launched this year include the Terra 2011 Viognier (NIS 51), a good choice to start the evening with, and the Terra Malbec 2010, an interesting, round wine to be served with meat or sharp cheeses (NIS 70).Carmel’s Private Collection is one of Israel’s most established brands since it was launched in 1988. It is always associated with Rothschild in honor of the founder of Israeli wine in modern times. A drawing of Baron Edmond appears on the label.The red wines in the collection are full of flavor with good structure and are oak aged in French and American barrels.The whites are made in a fresh, fragrant style with good acidity.Particularly recommended are the Private Collection Chardonnay and the Private Collection Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot.For those looking for something new or different, other wines include a Private Collection Shiraz and a Private Collection Viognier. The Golan Heights Winery’s Yarden brand is a longtime favorite on many dinner tables and is associated with quality.This year, their gift packages have a few newly released wines, including the Yarden Sirah 2009, for NIS 110; the less-known Yarden 2T 2009, made from two Portuguese grapes, Touriga Nacional and Tinta Cao (NIS 110); Chardonnay 2010 for NIS 66; and Muscat 2010, a sweet and aromatic dessert wine, for NIS 44.The gift packages of the Golan Heights Winery start this year at NIS 70 and include wine, delicacies and kitchenware.Look them up on the winery’s Internet site (www.golanwines.co.il).Tulip Winery has affordable kosher gift boxes of wines and gourmet items, all created by members of Kfar Tikva, the community for adults with developmental and emotional disabilities. For the New Year it suggests the Cabernet Franc 2009 (85% Cabernet Franc and 15% Petit Verdot), which is great with beef dishes or sharp cheese (NIS 115).Other suggestions from Vitkin are Riesling 2011, perfect with chicken and duck (NIS 85), and the 2009 Petit Sirah which is very robust and goes well with stews and other meat dishes (NIS 125).Psagot, a quality small winery in the Judean Hills, suggests drinking its signature wine, the Cabernet Sauvignon 2010, an elegant and robust wine that goes well with red meat. The bottle, with a embedded coin, will look very handsome on the festive table.Another of its wines, Shiraz 2010, is another good choice.
