On the occasion of "Second Hand Clothes Day" which is celebrated today (25.8) around the world, the Wizo organization conducted a crack designed to examine the habits of the public in buying clothes in second hand stores. The survey was conducted by the Rushink Research Institute. This is an internet survey among 620 respondents; A random, national and representative sample, of ages 16 to 64, connected to the Internet.

"World Second Hand Clothing Day" aims to raise awareness and the importance of buying second hand clothes, the impact on the world of fashion and clothing recycling, through social activities such as donating clothes to non-profit organizations, exchanging clothes with friends and relatives, buying clothes in second hand stores and more.

The survey shows that 61% of the public reports that they have donated clothes to second-hand stores in the past, while 28% of the Israeli public bought clothes at a second-hand store. 20% of second-hand buyers report that the increase in the cost of living is a significant factor for this. Among those who already buy second hand, the main factor that can encourage them to buy more is attractive prices. The same is true among those who have not yet bought in a second-hand store, the main factor that will encourage them to buy - attractive prices.

The survey also shows that, among buyers of clothing and footwear in second-hand stores, an overrepresentation was detected in the audiences - women, ages 16-29 and Jews: 28% report that they purchased second-hand in the last year, an increase of 7% compared to their purchasing habits in the previous year, of which 34% Women compared to 26% men, 40% young people between the ages of 16 and 29, 31% Jews compared to 23% Arabs.

According to the chairman of Witzo Israel, Ora Korazim, "the findings of the survey illustrate that the increase in the cost of living, together with the growing demand for vintage clothes and sustainable fashion, has a direct effect on the purchase of second-hand clothes. The public is aware of the importance of donating clothes to second-hand stores, but is afraid to purchase due to lack of familiarity with the second-hand world, which is gaining momentum and becoming a global trend. We see more and more women, men, girls and teenagers, fashionistas and opinion leaders visiting our clothing stores to find unique and high-quality clothing items at social prices, thus becoming a fashion leader at a social price and contributing to society and the environment."

Korazim emphasizes that "all clothing proceeds are intended to help women, girls and children who are in the cycle of violence and welfare. Also, people referred to the clothing stores from welfare are entitled to receive items free of charge for each member of the family, four times a year."
