Weekend Beer: Israeli-Hungarian Mango-Papaya Brew

The collaboration between Israel's Shnit Brewery and Hungary's Horizont Brewery, especially in these times, shows that beer can break walls and barriers even during challenging periods.

From this collaboration comes a refreshing tropical beer: A Sour Love Story, a sour beer with papaya, mango, and curry leaves. It's fun to drink and slightly spicy. Great news for sour beer enthusiasts, like myself.

Launch Dates and Locations:

Thursday, July 12: At Schnitt Pizza in Jaffa, starting at 8:00 PM, featuring more beers from the Hungarian brewery and a special pizza.

Friday, July 13: At Lauter Bar in Givon Square, Tel Aviv, starting at 11:00 AM, alongside a tasting tray of 5 special beers.

Midweek Outing: Psagot Winery at Sphera Kitchen & Bar

Chef Benny Madar's restaurant, Psagot Winery, and Nati's Boutique are kicking off the summer with a unique series of wine evenings. The event will include a wine tasting from Psagot Winery alongside a full chef's meal.

The evening, hosted by Sam Soroka, Psagot's winemaker, will offer diners a variety of young and aged wines from the winery's archives.

Weekend Wine: Tel Shifon, Rosé 2022

A winning combination of style, taste, and a charming winery worth supporting in these times. Tel Shifon Winery is located in the Golan Heights in a beautiful area. Normally, it hosts weddings and events, with people visiting its visitor center all week long.

Currently, the winery is touring the country, providing an opportunity for everyone to enjoy its excellent wines. One of my favorites is the rosé, a fantastic summer blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Cabernet Franc.

The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks, while the Syrah and Franc grapes were fermented together in old French oak barrels. The result: a complex yet light rosé, mineral-balanced, peachy in color and aroma, with a balanced acidity of ripe plums and peaches. A wine that pairs well with food and should be enjoyed chilled.

Weekend Classic: Cynar

Apologies for the arrogance, but this drink is not for everyone. It is a classic Sicilian amaro (bitter) made primarily from artichoke leaves. Its unique flavor may not suit every drinker, but it's very intriguing.

Combined with 13 other herbs and orange peels, Cynar is typically meant to be sipped after meals for better digestion, but it also works well as an aperitif, over ice with an orange slice, or even with tonic to stimulate the appetite.

Its taste is sweet-bitter-spicy, making it an excellent base for cocktails or neat over ice. Even if the idea of artichoke sounds strange, it's worth trying. You might discover a new experience.
