For many Israelis, one of the most memorable experiences from their trip to India is the old Royal Enfield motorcycles, remnants from the days when the company was still British, allowing assembly of its models in India.
This activity saved it from extinction. When the prestigious British motorcycle industry went bankrupt following the success of Japanese motorcycles, the company, which built its first motorcycle in 1901, became an Indian company based on its operations in the vast country.
For many years, Royal Enfield has been developing and launching new and modern models, and now two more are arriving here. The new adventure model, the Himalayan 450, revealed at the 2023 Milan Exhibition, upgrades the successful Himalayan concept. First, the 452cc engine is now liquid-cooled, 40 hp instead of 25 hp, with 4 valves and a double overhead camshaft, and of course, fuel injection. The gearbox has 6 speeds.
The new frame features a suspension system with Showa shocks, a new inverted fork at the front, a direct linkage between the swingarm and the frame, promising high off-road capability. The design is a facelift of the familiar Himalayan lines, with ABS, a round and modern TFT screen, and LED lights all around. The price: from NIS 37,000 for the standard version, up to NIS 39,000 for the well-equipped SUMMIT version.
The Shotgun 650 was presented on the 650cc platform of Royal Enfield, making it the fourth version on the platform. It was originally intended only for the American market, which greatly appreciates the custom style reminiscent of Harley-Davidson and Indian motorcycles, but as we can see, Europe and Israel are also receiving it.
The engine is a 650cc parallel twin producing 47 hp, with a 6-speed gearbox. The suspension system includes a Showa inverted fork, a new, lower, and wider handlebar along with more rear-set footpegs, creating a slightly sporty riding position.
