We tested five new foundations and came back with all the details: which one feels the best, which is suited only for oily skin, and which packaging needs to go? Here's the complete guide.

Shiseido, SKIN GLOW REVITALESSENCE

Shiseido’s new foundation is our BFF this brutal summer. On one hand, it's lightweight, breathable, and barely noticeable on the skin, even in scorching heat. On the other, it manages to create a natural, healthy glow, hiding dullness, dryness, and signs of fatigue—just what we need right now. All this goodness comes in a beautifully designed pump bottle, free of talc, parabens, and fragrance, and it’s suitable for sensitive skin.

Estée Lauder, Skin Tint Serum The Futurist

Let's talk about dropper foundations for a second: we're not fans. The dropper format almost always dispenses the wrong amount—too little or too much—and always threatens to stain your shirt. Now that we've vented, aside from the packaging, Estée Lauder's new foundation is everything tired, dry skin needs. It's a standout in the moisturizing foundation category, with a serum-like texture that nourishes, evens out skin tone, covers redness, and smooths over fine lines and pores without settling into them. The finish is silky and tastefully radiant, with SPF 20 making it perfect for summer and beyond. Available in 12 shades.

Bobbi Brown, New Weightless Skin Foundation

Bobbi Brown's long-standing foundation gets a refresh: the New Weightless pulls off wonders, offering a natural matte finish—essential for days when we all shine like a frying pan. It achieves this balance without stripping the skin of the little moisture it has left and without leaving a mask-like, dry finish. It's highly liquid, easy to build, and provides medium coverage—so don’t expect more. Ideal for combination skin, it comes in a remarkable 53 shades, ensuring a precise match for every undertone.

Lancôme, TEINT IDOLE ULTRA WEAR

Lancôme’s classic foundation recently got an upgrade, promising to be more breathable, longer-lasting, and now available in new shades with pigments that better suit darker skin tones. According to a tester familiar with the previous version, the formula is ultra-light, almost imperceptible, yet provides excellent coverage with a very dry matte finish. It's a great deal for those with problematic, oily, shiny skin. If you have normal skin, be sure to prep with extra moisture, and if your skin is dry—stay far away unless you want to end up with flaky cheeks and forehead by midday.

Yves Saint Laurent, All Hours Foundation

Another new version of a well-known foundation, this one promises (and delivers) an extreme matte finish. The new All Hours excels in coverage, durability, and staying power, with a lightweight texture that allows the skin to breathe. On the flip side, despite the addition of hyaluronic acid to the formula, if you're not dealing with an oily shine and just want something to dry up that sweaty glow, it’s best to look elsewhere. Available in 18 shades.
