Founded in April 2022 by Tomer Weinberg, Terra Uma aims to support those living with post-traumatic stress disorder. Tomer, himself affected by PTSD following an injury in the Second Lebanon War, found healing and transformation through his connection to winemaking and agriculture, inspiring him to establish the organization to help others in similar situations.
Terra Uma guides participants on an emotionally enriching journey through winemaking to support and strengthen their resilience as they reintegrate into society. Leading winemakers in Israel mentor participants, teaching them the intricacies of the wine-making process. This approach blends agriculture, creativity, and emotional expression, creating a therapeutic experience that fosters a renewed sense of purpose and direction.
Each participant creates a unique wine series, with an individual wine barrel symbolizing their personal journey. The stages of fermentation, pressing, and sediment filtering represent their struggles with past combat experiences. The completed bottles embody a tangible outcome of the process, symbolizing new life and renewed dreams.
After a shared year of work in the vineyards and bottling, Terra Uma wines have finally been launched. Bottles from the first cohort are now available for purchase, with proceeds going to fund the organization's activities.
From Trauma to Growth
Terra Uma planted its first vineyard plot in Batzra in June 2023. Participants connect with the land, work in the vineyards, and learn from nature, exploring mindfulness techniques to release physical and emotional energy. A nearby orchard serves as a hub for therapeutic and creative activities.
Following recent conflicts, the organization expanded its activities to provide immediate support for soldiers dealing with traumatic experiences, helping to prevent further deterioration of their mental health.
The Terra Uma team includes top winemakers and professionals blending winemaking with personal empowerment. Notable members include Ido Lewinson, Assaf Margalit, Shelly Kalagoda, Yonatan Koren, Dana Benay, Guy Eshel, Or Nidbach, Dror Engelstein, Meital Damari, and others. Photographer Eyal Keren volunteered to capture the wines in photos.
Layla White and Layla Red
The Layla series includes two wines: a white and a red. As Tomer Weinberg remarked at the launch, "Sometimes our nights are white, and sometimes they’re painted in red."
These wines tell a story of life that combines fate and choice, unity, and acceptance. The wines crafted by the first cohort of participants are a testament to the power of supportive industries and a caring community.
The Layla series wines were produced under the direction of winemaker Guy Eshel at the Dalton Winery, which embraced the organization wholeheartedly. Barkan Winery also contributed by donating grapes to the project. All proceeds go toward expanding Terra Uma’s activities.
Layla White 2023 – Made from Colombard and 10% Semillon grapes, this aromatic, floral, and fruity wine has notes of peach and apricot with refreshing acidity.

Layla Red 2023 – A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with 2% Syrah to soften and round out the wine. The result is a light, refreshing red wine with aromas of fresh red fruit.
