14 die in commuter bus fire in south Iraq

Iraqi police and hospital officials say a commuter bus traveling between Baghdad and a southern city caught fire, killing 14 passengers on board. An Iraqi police official says 26 others were wounded in the blaze Tuesday morning near the city of Kut, located about 100 miles (160 kilometers) southeast of Baghdad. The official says five women and three children are among the dead. A hospital official confirmed the casualties, saying the fire appears to have started in the engine of the bus. Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information, No other details were immediately available.
