280,000 volunteers join Clean Up the World Day

More than 280,000 volunteers collected 3,100 tons of garbage on Tuesday during Israel’s Clean Up the World Day, administered by Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael-Jewish National Fund but under the international umbrella of the United Nations, the Israeli organization announced.
Cleanup crews of schoolchildren, JNF-KKL employees and soldiers took to Ben Shemen Forest in the morning, while other groups cleared garbage from forests throughout the country and experienced various educational activities such as those at the Hiriya dump site in Ariel Sharon Park.
Environmental Protection Minister Gilad Erdan praised JNF-KKL for making Israel “cleaner and more beautiful for future generations.”
