Jordan's Prince Hamzah relinquishes the title of Prince

Jordan's Prince Hamzah bin al-Hussein is relinquishing the title of Prince, he said in a statement.

Hamzah was named Crown Prince of Jordan in 1999, a position he held until his older half-brother, King Abdullah II, rescinded it in 2004.

Prince Hamza, a former heir to the throne, was accused last year of conspiring to destabilize the monarchy in a foreign-inspired plot.

On 3 April 2021, the BBC published a video of Hamzah in which he reported that he has been placed under house arrest as part of a crackdown on critics.
