Armed clashes break out between IDF, Palestinians near Jenin - watch

IDF soldiers confiscated weapons from Muhammad al-Tubasi, according to Palestinian reports, who served as a member of the PIJ's al-Quds Brigades.

Armed clashes broke out between the IDF and Palestinians in Wadi Burqin near Jenin on Tuesday morning, as Israeli forces surrounded a house in the area and arrested a suspect.

Soldiers from the Sayeret Golani and Duvdevan Units and troops from Border Police and the Shin Bet worked to arrest the suspect. According to Palestinian reports, the Israeli forces arrested both Muhammad al-Tubasi and his nephew Iyad, but released Iyad shortly afterward.

The soldiers confiscated an M16 and a military vest from the home of the suspect.

The Palestinian Islamic Jihad's branch in Jenin stated that it had clashed with Israeli forces in the area. No Israeli soldiers were injured. Three Palestinians were injured, including one who was shot in the knee, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

Al-Tubasi has served as a member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad's al-Quds Brigades and as a member of the Palestinian Authority's security services. In 2002, he was arrested by Israeli forces in Jenin and spent a number of years in Israeli prison.
