A resident of Taybeh who was lightly wounded after being shot in the leg was kidnapped Monday night by several armed men from an ambulance transferring him to a hospital.
On Tuesday morning, a resident of Taybeh was arrested in connection with the shooting and kidnapping. In addition, the victim was located and rescued after being found in the West Bank. Police are still searching for additional suspects.
The kidnapping happened shortly after a double murder that took place in Lod, in which a mother and her 14-year-old daughter were found dead.
Police forces, under the command of Taybeh station commander Deputy Superintendent Elad Klein, arrived at the scene and began investigating the incident.
According to initial police suspicions, an interfamily conflict that originated in the West Bank spilled over into Israel and caused the incident in Taybeh.
How exactly was he kidnapped?
A suspect shot the victim, who arrived independently at a local clinic in the city and was taken from there by ambulance to the Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba with a gunshot wound to the leg.
While the injured man was in the ambulance on his way to receive medical treatment, a number of armed suspects arrived, blocked the path of the vehicle and kidnapped him from the ambulance while shooting in the air and assaulting the ambulance staff. That was when the victim was then taken into the West Bank, according to Israeli media.
"They kidnapped the injured person from the ambulance while threatening me with a gun and shooting in the air," the ambulance driver, Joad Nashef, told Ynet.
"On the way, I was blocked in the alleys in Taybeh with a car, three people got out, forced the doors open and broke into the ambulance. They wanted to take the wounded man and I resisted. I took them out of the vehicle at first, then they brought a weapon from their vehicle, shot in the air and threatened me with the weapon. The wounded man was inside, bleeding, they carried him away."
