Israel Border Police officer Asil Suaed was killed in a stabbing attack at the checkpoint to the Shuafat refugee camp just hours after a man in his 20's was lightly injured after being stabbed by a terrorist near the Chain Gate of the Temple Mount on Monday afternoon.
On Monday evening, a 13-year-old Palestinian terrorist pulled out a knife and assaulted Border Police officers who were conducting a security check on a bus at the checkpoint to the Shuafat refugee camp. The officers fired at the terrorist and arrested him.
One of the officers was critically wounded after being stabbed and hit by shots fired by a civilian security guard who shot at the terrorist after the terrorist assaulted them. Despite resuscitation efforts at the scene and at the hospital, the officer succumbed to his wounds later in the evening.
Magen David Adom emergency medic Shimon Zaltz stated that "I arrived at the scene quickly and saw inside the bus a young man in his 20s with stab wounds. He was unconscious and a large number of MDA personnel immediately arrived. We gave him medical treatment while working to stop the bleeding and evacuated him to the hospital while he was in very serious condition."
Shortly after the attack, Israeli forces were seen entering Shuafat and it was confirmed that they arrested three members of the terrorist's family - his parents and his brother - and that they have been taken for further questioning.
During the arrest operation inside the refugee camp, a vehicle reportedly sped toward them and the driver allegedly attempted to run them over.
The soldiers stated that they felt that their lives were in danger as a result and opened fire at the driver in response.
Just hours before that attack, a young man was stabbed in the back by a terrorist in Jerusalem's Old City. The doors to the Temple Mount and al-Aqsa Mosque were closed by police shortly after the attack, according to Palestinian reports. Police entered the compound and arrested the suspect who was hiding in the mosque. The doors were reopened after the arrest.
The terrorist who conducted the attack in the Old City was identified as a 14-year-old resident of the Shuafat neighborhood of east Jerusalem.
Wave of terror strikes Jerusalem
The attack comes just days after two children and a young man were murdered in a terrorist ramming attack in the Ramot neighborhood of Jerusalem.
Earlier on Monday, the Jerusalem Municipality demolished two homes belonging to the Bashir family in the Jabel Mukaber neighborhood of the city, according to Palestinian reports.
Early Monday morning, the IAF conducted airstrikes in the Gaza Strip in response to rocket fire that targeted southern Israel on Saturday. The airstrikes targeted an underground rocket manufacturing facility belonging to Hamas.
During the airstrikes, Palestinian terrorist groups in Gaza fired four surface-to-air missiles, with three of the missiles exploding in the air and one of them falling in an open area. The missiles set off rocket sirens in Sderot and Ruchama.
After the missiles were fired, the IDF responded with tank fire on Hamas positions near the Gaza border.
