Dozens of protesters demonstrated their opposition to the government's planned judicial reforms in front of the Knesset Finance Committee chairman, UTJ MK Moshe Gafni's house in Bnei Brak on Tuesday evening.
Dozens of Bnei Brak residents arrived to protest against the demonstrators from the opposition, some holding posters with the slogan 'leftist traitors.'
Confrontations with local residents
Videos from the scene showed eggs and firecrackers being thrown against the opposition protesters. One suspect was arrested after he hit a police officer with pepper spray, according to the Israel Police Spokesperson's Unit.
Gafni's office asked the public not to come to the demonstration and to confront the protesters there.
The police closed a number of streets in Bnei Brak due to the protest.
This protest is the first of a number of planned actions protesting against the involvement of ultra-Orthodox Knesset members in promoting the judicial reforms, according to the protest's organizers. Gafni recently called to "take down the High Court" and promotes the legislation of the override clause, they added.
At the same time, around 500 Israelis protested in front of Likud MK Yuli Edelstein's house in Herzlia, according to Ynet News.
The protests are the latest of a number of demonstrations against the government's policy taking place in front of prominent coalition member's houses.
