The Lebanese terror organization Hezbollah announced on Saturday morning that Ahmad Mahmoud Wahabi, a senior commander in the group and part of the top command of the Radwan Force, was killed in the IDF airstrike in Beirut yesterday.
The strike killed Hezbollah Operations Division head and Radwan Force Commander Ibrahim Aqil along with nearly a dozen other top commanders.
Other fatalities included Muhammad Ahmad Reda, Muhammad Qasim al-Attar, Muhammad Ahmad Reda, Ahmad Samir Deeb, Abdullah Abbas Hijazi, Aref Ahmad al-Raz, Hassan Ali Hussein, Abbas Sami Muslimani, Hussein Ahmad Hadroj, Hassan Yousef Abdul Sater, Mahdi Muslim Jamoul, and Jihad Shafiq Khazal Khanafer, Hezbollah announced on their Telegram page.
What was Wahabi's role in the Hezbollah terror organization?
Hezbollah credited Wahabi as a key member of Hezbollah's training protocol, calling him the head of their "central training unit" and a former Radwan Force commander, Israeli media reported.
Wahabi was also allegedly involved in fighting for Bashar al-Assad during the Syrian civil war, much like other Hezbollah officers.
In Friday's strikes, Reuters initially reported that a thick cloud of smoke was seen climbing over the Lebanese capital, adding that residents of the city's southern suburbs reported hearing a blast.
Israeli and foreign media reported that the meeting was between Palestinian and Hezbollah officials. The Jerusalem Post was not able to confirm the report at this time.
The strike followed massive Hezbollah rocket attacks on northern Israel overnight between Thursday and Friday, during which some 50 homes in the Israeli border community of Metulla were reportedly damaged. Additionally, rocket falls and shrapnel sparked fires across several locations in the North.
