Sgt.-Maj. (res.) Eitan Ben Ami fell in combat in southern Lebanon, the IDF announced Wednesday evening.
Ben Ami, 22, from Jerusalem, was a solder in the IDF's Maglan's Reservist Unit in the Commando Brigade.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night when the IDF's 98th Division was operating in the eastern sector of southern Lebanon, the military said.
According to Army Radio, during operations in the area, troops entered a building that collapsed. The building was partially destroyed and had been previously damaged in an airstrike or artillery attack, with heavy rains likely contributing to its collapse.
Over 800 soldiers killed since beginning of war
Two soldiers, one of them Ben Ami, were trapped as a result of the collapse. It took many hours to extricate them, with the other soldier being rescued alive, according to the report.
According to the IDF's tally, the death of Sgt.-Maj. Ben Ami raises the total of soldiers killed on or since October 7 of last year to 802.
