The IDF returned the bodies of Amer Qawas and Hosam Abu Ghazaleh, the two terrorists who carried out the shooting attack near the Dead Sea on October 18, to Jordan on Tuesday, the military said on Wednesday.
The IDF added the move had been carried out in accordance with a directive issued by the political echelon.
The two terrorists infiltrated into the area of the Dead Sea from Jordan, where they carried out the terror attack, wounding two IDF soldiers.
The Jordan News Agency, also known as Petra, reported on Wednesday that the Jordanian Foreign Ministry had confirmed it had received Qawas and Abu Ghazaleh's bodies.
The bodies of the two terrorists were given over to their families, Petra noted. Jordan's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Ambassador Sufian Qudah, told Petra that he had overseen the transfer of the bodies from Israel to Jordan.
The bodies were transferred from Israel back to Jordan via the King Hussein Bridge before being returned to their families, the Jordanian news agency added.
Dead Sea terror attack
On October 18, two female observation soldiers from the 727th Battalion identified two suspects in the border area with Jordan, south of the Dead Sea, and dispatched troops to the location.
Troops who had arrived on the scene shot and eliminated the two terrorists near the border.
