Chechen Republic to build new mosque in J'lem outskirts

Russia’s Chechen Republic is funding the building of a new mosque, which it claims will be the second-largest in Israel after the famous Al-Aqsa on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. According to Russia’s RT website, the mosque will be built in Abu Ghosh, which is an Arab village on the outskirts of Jerusalem.
This follows the news earlier this year that the Beitar Jerusalem soccer team signed two Muslim Chechen players, which caused some of the team’s fans to protest the signing of Muslim players.
The mosque will be able to hold a few thousand worshipers and will serve a local population of ethnic Chechens. Construction has already begun and is being built on a street named after ex-Chechen President Akhmad Kadyrov, who was assassinated in 2004. The mosque will also be named after him, according to the report.
