The family of a six-year-old boy critically injured in Jerusalem on Friday night by a 21-year-old unlicensed driver who fled the scene, is demanding that the suspect, who was arrested on Sunday, be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.The unidentified driver, who was traveling with his brother, struck the child at Bar Ilan Junction before speeding away. The boy, whose condition has improved, was treated by Magen David Adom paramedics for severe head and abdominal injuries before being transferred to Hadassah University Medical Center at Ein Kerem.According to police, both brothers were turned in by a concerned family member shortly after learning of the incident. On Tuesday a Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court judge extended the driver’s remand by three days, pending an indictment scheduled to be filed on Wednesday. In a statement, the boy’s family condemned the suspect for leaving the scene, adding that they will ensure the driver is dealt with “the full force of the law, in all its severity.”
