Foreign Ministry issues travel warning for the Maldives

The Foreign Ministry has warned Israeli travelers to stay out of the Maldives after a police mutiny led to the Madlives's president to resign.
The Foreign Ministry urged Israelis on the island nation to be wary and to avoid the capital Male or any government institution or populated areas.
Israelis on the atolls should contact the Foreign Ministry immediately, the ministry said.
Mohamed Nasheed, who in 2008 became the first democratically elected president of the 1,200-island archipelago best known for luxury tourism, resigned Tuesday after three weeks of opposition protests culminated in a police revolt.
