JERUSALEM - Hamas said it fired a rocket at the city of Haifa, northern Israel, on Tuesday in what would be the longest-range such Palestinian attack from the Gaza Strip. There was no immediate word of any impact in Haifa, on the Mediterranean coast 140 km (88 miles) from Gaza. A Haifa resident said he had heard no sirens in the city. The announcement came shortly after air raid sirens sounded in nearby Binyamina in what Israeli media subsequently said may have been a false alarm.
