Israeli Arab indicted for allegedly having joined al-Qaida affiliate in Syria

An Israeli citizen was arrested earlier this month after returning from Syria where he joined al-Qaida affiliated rebel fighters, the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) announced Thursday.
Amin Ahmed Salah Snobar, 24, from Kfar Yasif in the North was arrested by Shin Bet and Israel Police on January 2 after returning from Syria, where he had been since July 2014.
Snobar admitted to his interrogators that he traveled to Syria via Turkey with the intention of joining rebel factions fighting against the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad, the Shin Bet stated.
He trained with rebel groups Ansar al-Sham and Jabhat al-Nusra, al-Qaida's Syrian affiliate. He received training in weapons, preparing explosives and carrying out missions for the groups.
Snobar was indicted Thursday in Haifa District Court on charges of joining an illegal organization, conspiracy to commit a crime, illegally leaving the country and obstruction of justice.
