Labor MK urges PM to launch immediate peace talks

Senior Labor MK Hilik Bar called Tuesday in the Knesset for Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to launch immediate talks with the Palestinians, without preconditions.
Speaking in the Knesset plenum, Bar urged the PM to establish a negotiating team at once. He gave a laundry list of reasons for such urgency, citing “the failure of the last American emissaries to the Middle East, the Arab Spring and the reality in Egypt and Syria, the strengthening of Hamas and weakening of the legitimacy of Abu Mazen [Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas], that we find ourselves on the cusp of a third intifada in the territories, and above all, the imminent arrival of the US president.”
All of these factors, Bar continued, compel Israel “to accelerate, or in reality begin, immediate peace talks with the Palestinian Authority."
